Kindred Ties, Book 1: Convergence

For scientist Robyn Greene, her laboratory is a second home. Here she searches for the ancient gene that is supposed to enable humans to communicate with animals. After years of failure, she’s beginning to wonder if the gene is a myth. But when she stumbles across a strange genetic mutation, Robyn’s world turns upside down. The man posing as her boss is, in fact, an operative of the mysterious international organisation, the MRI. Worse, they have dark plans to exploit her discovery.

In a race against time, Robyn must track down the individuals with this rare gene before the MRI turns them into lab rats. But when she meets the three teenagers, she realises that protecting them from the MRI is not only about saving their lives. Fletcher, Ariana and Eli are capable of more than anyone realises; they are part of an ancient cycle designed to keep the Earth in balance. A terrible future awaits the planet if the MRI gains control of Robyn and her research before she’s figured out the kindred ties that bind these teenagers.

 PRAISE FOR ‘CONVERGENCE’

“The cover of this book is what really drew me in when I saw a photo of it on our bookstore Facebook page after my boss picked up an advanced copy at the Indie Bookseller and was instantly eager to read it. The title as well was enticing, so instead of looking to see what it was about I decided to immediately jump in.
This book has all you could possibly want: betrayal, animals, action, adventure, and a peculiar love triangle and only took me not even a day to read, I couldn’t put it down. The book is set in the modern day world, where postgrad student Robyn is working on her PhD in genetics. Her thesis centres on the possibility of a genetic mutation that allows humans to communicate and link with animals. When this hypothetical situation begins to come true, Robyn comes face to face with extraordinary children and situations she never thought to be possible.

I absolutely loved the three main child protagonists; Fletcher, Eli, and Arianna. They are innocent and naïve in some aspects, but they have been through traumatic experiences and are slowly gaining power. I can’t wait to see what they get up to as the series continues.

Robyn is also a character I really enjoyed reading, she saw things from a science and almost anti-social outlook to begin with, but as the book progressed she became a compassionate and powerful woman in her own rights.
Set in Australia, the book is easy to read and absolutely gripping. I found it difficult to do everyday chores and necessities as I was too focused on reading this book. It bounces between character perspectives, so as one chapter ends you can’t wait to get to their next point of view section. This is definitely a series to get behind.”

“This is an action packed, sci-fi novel with real contemporary issues, both on a world wide and individual basis. It is written by an Australian debut author and is the first in what will become the Kindred Ties trilogy. I can’t wait to read the other two books in the series, and I am sure science fiction enthusiasts, 14 and older, will agree with me.”
